Topical Tuesday: "You wear too much makeup"

This post is going to be a long one so grab yourself a cuppa and be prepared for a ramble of my opinions.

Makeup has revolutionised over the years. There are so many different formulas and new shades always coming out. Whatever your budget or makeup preference there is products to suit that.
People think that those who wear makeup do it to look better and whilst this is true. There is much more to it than that. Makeup allows you to show off your creativity, it makes you feel good about yourself and you feel ready for the day. Makeup is now just an extended representation of you just like your clothes are.
With makeup being so common and popular, people still feel the need to judge others who wear it. But why do they do this? What makes it acceptable for someone to comment negatively on someone else's makeup?  In my opinion if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

From doing research and just generally reading comments online. Girls who wear a lot of makeup are often shamed for it. Whilst I am 100% supportive of the natural look. Girls who choose this look don't get judged for it or any comments made towards them. Instead of being negative embrace all types of makeup and how unique it can be.

My makeup 'journey' began when I was 12. That's the age I started to get into makeup. When I started secondary school I decided to start wearing makeup. Other than that I used to wear makeup on 'special occasions' such as parties etc. Even when I was around 12 I never used to wear much. It was literally powder, lipstick and mascara. I hated the feeling of it on my skin etc. Fast forward a few year and I stumbled across the beauty community on YouTube. I have no idea how I came across it but I was intrigued by all these products. The first YouTubers I watched: Lollipop26 and JuicyStar07. They ofcourse used a lot of high end makeup products (that I never had at the time). This is where my makeup obsession began and I started to wear more and more makeup. Gone is the powder and replaced with full coverage foundation etc.

I am now 19 and my makeup collection has grown from a couple of items. To having 8 drawers full of makeup all organised: lip drawer, eyeshadow palette drawers, face drawers etc. Instead of owing one pink lipstick I now have about 100 pink lipstick. Which nobody needs 100 lipstick but makeup is my 'obsession' and all of these pinks 'are' different. But do I really need them all? No. But do I want them all? Yes as it makes me feel good when I apply them.
When it comes to base makeup I now use full coverage products. Do I need them? No as my skin is clear (luckily) but I love the way my skin looks using them. Thank you Estee Lauder for creating full coverage products. The double wear foundation, concealer and powder makes your face look flawless. Does it look like you are wearing makeup? Yes. But to be honest when you are spending that amount of money on makeup you want people to at least know you are wearing makeup (well I do anyways).
On the other hand I can easily go out the house makeup free or wearing natural makeup. As a beauty blogger I am always testing out different products e.g foundations. Which I love and it interests me.

This is the makeup I typically wear if I'm going out shopping, on a night out (which rarely happens) or even to uni. The only thing that does tend to change in my makeup routine is eyeshadow, lip colour and mascara. I like to switch these up depending on my outfit.
My makeup routine is 25 products. I know myself that this is a lot of products. But who cares? I certainly don't. I could use less products but then I wouldn't feel as good and I enjoy the process of applying makeup.
I like how I can transform the way I look just through makeup. Suddenly the redness on my cheeks has disappeared, no more under eye circles and bronzer added to make me look more healthy.

Typically when it comes to makeup I can either get ready in 10 minutes or 2 hours. It really depends on where I am going and how much time I have to get ready. If I know I'm going somewhere where I want to look nice I will get up 2 hours early just to give myself enough time to do my makeup, hair etc.

When it comes to university my makeup tends to stay similar as the picture above. University is also a good time for me to use new makeup products I buy or get sent so that I can review them on my blog. Many of times have I went into uni (I study English) wearing a silver smokey eye with a bold red lip as part of a blog post. Nobody at uni ever said anything (well not to my face anyways, behind my back who knows. Hopefully not though) To me wearing a full face of makeup is normal. I'd happily wear a smoky eye, bold lip, strong contour and glitter any day!

In my opinion there is no such thing as wearing too much makeup because who has decided how much is too much? There are no set rules about what is a lot of makeup. People have made these rules themselves. Makeup has no rules if you want to apply that highlighter you go girl! don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!
Makeup is an art and as long as you know how to apply it 'correctly' then good it will look good even if you apply a lot of it. There are no boundaries when it comes to how much makeup you should apply as long as you're happy.
Instead of girls critising other girls for wearing a lot of makeup why not embrace it. Embrace the fact their eye liner is 'on fleek' since we all know how hard that is to get right.
Looking on Twitter a reccuring comment is people saying girls wear makeup for boys. Not true! Do you really think girls apply 3 different eyeshadows to impress boys who won't even know the difference between Dirtysweet and Radar.

If people have ever said you wear too much makeup I have found these to be the perfect responses back:
Good that was my aim. I don't spend a lot of money on makeup for it not to be noticeable
Good thing you aren't wearing it then
Well it's my face not yours
You focus on what your own face looks like instead of mine
That's your opinion but I disagree
You don't wear enough makeup....
I like my makeup and that's all that matters

I asked on Twitter what other people think about this and these are the responses that I got:
"I believe that no one should be judged on the amount of makeup they wear, if it gives you confidence and makes you feel better about yourself, or you just love makeup, then you shouldn't be criticised for that! Lucy from thegirlontrend
"There is no such thing as too much makeup, as long as you know how to apply it" Rae from raecoppola
"I think I wear too little makeup in the eyes of most people" Sarah from Lavenderlife
"Makeup is subjective! There's no limit and it's based on how you feel not other people" Megan from whynotblog
"I think you can only have too much makeup on when you don't apply it right. It's all about what's right for you!" Stacey from tartantulip
"I can't wear too much, like draw my eyebrows as it doesn't suit my face. But when I wear night makeup my mum says I look better" Francesca from jordesca
"Too much makeup is not being able to recognise who that person is! In my opinion" Marikah from keepingupwithmj
"Makeup is one of those things that is purely down to personal preference! If you've applied it right and you like it then does it matter if other people say you're wearing too much makeup. Everyone will criticise the majority of things people do. Makeup is just another one to add to the list" Emily from love-Emily.

In conclusion, makeup is down to what the individual likes and as long as you like it who cares what other people think. People are going to judge you anyways so why not let them judge you on your perfectly applied makeup skills. Most of the time it's probably down to jealously or envy as you probably do a better job than them.
Once you have applied your makeup for the day you don't have to look at it and if others have a problem with it then it's down to them. At the end of the day makeup is just makeup. It can be easily wiped off so instead of judging people for it just embrace everyone is different. Just like people have different fashion styles people like different  makeup styles.
I am all for natural makeup as well because most days I am makeup free. I am not one of these people who applies makeup just to sit in the house all day doing nothing. I love no makeup days aswell as it allows my skin to breath and there is nothing better than taking your makeup off at the end of the day.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post. This is the first post on my blog that is me just chatting away to you about my opinion on a topic. How to contact me

  1. we can never win! i always get comments when i'm not wearing make up grrr... xo

    1. I agree! I do aswell. People ask me if I'm feeling okay if I don't wear any makeup as I'm really pale! xx

  2. Great post, but it's drawer, not draw though.

  3. Loved this post Chloe! I completely agree with you, and don't see why everyone feels we should all be the same. I have happily worn a dark smokey eye and red lip to just pop to Tesco, and equally, I have been with no make-up on. It's not for anybody else to judge, makeup shaming needs to stop!
    - Nishi x

    1. Thank you Nishi! Makeup is about expressing who you are as a person not trying to hide yourself away. Makeup is down to the individual and how they want to wear it. Nobody else should judge them for it. But unfortunately people still continue to makeup shame which isn't right x

  4. I really don't think people should judge others for wearing more makeup.
My routine tends to be only few products on most occasions as I feel my skin doesn't like a lot of products all the time but I love when I am going out somewhere, or a special occasion sitting in front of the mirror and applying make up, and seeing the change.

Keep doing what you love :)

    1. I don't either as it is down to the individual and what they prefer. As long as make up makes you happy that's the most important thing. It doesn't matter how much or how little of it you wear :)

  5. Love this post! I also love makeup because it makes me feel better about myself! Xx

    1. Thank you :) it's amazing how makeup can make you feel good when you apply it xx

Max Factor: Smooth Miracle Primer and Miracle foundation review

I was kindly sent these products to review
Max Factor is such an iconic brand that has been around for years. I can remember Nana using it and even my Mam. When I got the chance to try out some Max Factor makeup I was really happy (infact I screamed inside) When I opened the package I was really happy with what was inside. The Smooth Miracle Primer and Miracle Touch Foundation. Both products claim to smooth the skin textures. Also, these products are advertised on TV and the models skin looks flawless. Anything that claims to make your skin look flawless and smooth I will try. As you all know I love a flawless, smooth and full coverage base.
Smooth Miracle Primer I 'secretly' hoped that this would have been one of the products in the package, as I really wanted to try it out. So when I saw this product I was thrilled. The bottom picture above is the primer using a small pump and on the right (which you can't see) it is blended out. I applied the primer all over my face and I…

W7 are such an affordable brand with great quality products. They do a wide selection of different products and shades. I kindly got sent these products to review. When my packaged arrived I was really happy to see what was in the box. When I opened my parcel I wasn't disappointed as each of these products look amazing. In this blog post I will be sharing my opinions on the products and swatches. I have previously reviewed W7 products here. In that blog post I reviewed W7 prime and glow illuminating primer, Genius feather light foundation, Kiss me lip plumping gloss and cheeky chap multi blush. W7 do not test on animals.
W7 Powder Puff When I saw this in the box I was really excited as I've wanted to try this for a while. Also it is pink which I love as pink is my favourite colour.
The powder puff is latex free
Before I use this sponge I dampen it as foundation, concealer blends out better when doing so.
To create the flawless finish I bounce the sponge off my skin it also stops y…
